Sounds

March 16, 2010

The sounds of the world are a reflection of what we do to the world they also reflect back upon us and influence how we interact with it. Chaotic sounds cause chaotic thoughts — silence, real or created, breeds serenity.

In a way we are able to use sound to control our thoughts on the world. Do you want to listen to heavy metal music on the train and breed anger and the energy that it might bring. Do you want to calmly listen to the rhythms of the world in motion exploring where you fit within it. Or do you want to just listen to anything (or nothing at all) in an effort to eliminate distraction.

In many cases the ultimate choice is yours… Decide carefully.

Mockumentary

March 16, 2010

I love The Office and I guess by extension I love the trend of mockumentary shows and advertising that it has spawned — but there is just something not quite right about them. The problem with mockumentaries and iPad ads and the like is that they cut straight to the answers without giving us the question.

I realize that it’s a film technique but questions are important — they expose the gaps in our perceptions and understandings. Ignoring the questions assumes those gaps or, worse yet, it imposes them.

Time Estimates

March 15, 2010

Evidentally when I try to plan out how much time something should take I need to start doubling my estimate.

Damn

GTD

March 14, 2010

Just how you go about managing your workload is one thing and various gurus will have advice on how to do that (any of which you would need to make your own for there to be any hope at all that it will work). The one piece of advice that I’ll wager is pretty universally applicable though is if you put together a reasonable set of tasks first thing in the morning and then just be really diligent at staying focused and accomplishing them one by one you’ll get a hell of a lot more done and have a good sense of accomplishment in doing it.

My 2 cents.

Posture

Good posture is important.

Motivation

March 11, 2010

Motivation is not just this bundle of energy that you can apply to anything and everything that you need to do. Well maybe it is but not for me. I got a huge amount done in one area but didn’t accomplish my fitness goal for the day — I had the energy and the time but I just couldn’t motivate myself to do it. If I’m going to be frank then it means that I also have to be critical and I need to figure out how to motivate myself to do the things that I need to do to take care of myself. I don’t think that I have any readers yet but if I do please leave your thoughts in the comments.

Directions

March 10, 2010

My life is going in directions that I’m not happy with on a number of fronts. I need to take some time to reflect upon how to change that.

Complaining

March 9, 2010

Today I was the squeaky wheel. I was forced into a position where I had to complain about an injustice being forced upon me — but my complaints fell on ears deafened by stupidity and lack of authority. The only thing that they could do is tell me that I’m wrong, but not why, that they couldn’t connect me to someone who is in a position of authority and again they couldn’t tell me why not.
I found my own way to take this to higher levels but I have little faith that it will get me very far as I’m the one in this situation without the power.
Maybe this squeaky wheel will get some grease and maybe it won’t. In the end, I’m the one who has to bear the burden of someone else’s mistake but no matter how much they try to convince me otherwise 5 will never equal 7  and  perhaps I can take some solace in knowing that…

Collapse

Doomsayers are nothing new, neither are those who devote their lives to trying to find hidden truths and connections in the web of knowledge they accumulate. But at what point are those people insane conspiracy theorists and at what point are they predictors of reality?

Meditation brings wisdom; lack of meditation leaves ignorance. Know well what leads you forward and what holds you back, and choose the path that leads to wisdom.” – Buddha
